Terms of Service

1. Who we are

Neurix Reader ("the Service") is operated by Code Highland ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

Neurix Reader is an AI-powered tool for reading academic PDFs and generating study notes. AI-generated notes are provided to assist study and may contain errors or omissions; you are responsible for verifying any information before relying on it. You must only upload documents you have the right to use.

3. Accounts

You must provide a valid email address and keep your login credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. You must be old enough to enter a binding contract in your country of residence.

4. Plans, billing and renewal

The Service offers a free plan (a limited number of AI note generations per day, for text-based PDFs, on a confirmed email address) and paid monthly subscription plans. Current plans, limits and prices are shown on our Pricing page.

Paid plans are billed monthly in advance through Lemon Squeezy, our authorised payment provider and Merchant of Record. Lemon Squeezy handles payment processing and applicable taxes, and their terms also apply to your purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically each month until cancelled.

Paid plans include a daily limit on AI note generations as described on the Pricing page. We may change prices or plan limits with reasonable notice; changes do not affect the period you have already paid for.

5. Cancellation

You can cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation stops future renewals; you retain access until the end of the current paid period. See our Refund Policy for details on refunds.

6. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service lawfully and only for your own study or research. You must only upload documents you have the right to use, and you must not upload unlawful, infringing, or malicious content.

We may suspend or terminate accounts, remove content, or limit access where necessary to enforce these Terms or to protect the Service, our other users, or third parties.

7. Restrictions: automated access, scraping and reverse engineering

The Service — including its interface, its AI-generated notes and other output, and the software, prompts, and models that power it — is made available to you under a limited licence for your personal study only. You must not, and must not enable, permit, or assist any other person or automated agent to:

(a) access, query, or interact with the Service, its website, or its APIs by any automated or bulk means, including bots, scrapers, crawlers, spiders, headless browsers, or scripts, except as we expressly authorise in writing;

(b) extract, harvest, scrape, copy, or store the Service’s content, AI-generated output, prompts, or data in bulk, or use any of it to create, populate, or train any dataset, product, model, or service;

(c) reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to discover or derive the source code, prompts, model-routing, document-processing techniques, or other underlying methods of the Service, except to the limited extent this restriction cannot be excluded under applicable law;

(d) circumvent, disable, degrade, or interfere with any rate limit, quota, paywall, authentication, security, or access control, or use multiple, shared, or automated accounts to exceed plan limits or a free trial;

(e) resell, rent, sublicense, redistribute, or otherwise make the Service or its output available to any third party, or use it to build or operate a competing or substitute service;

(f) probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service, or breach or circumvent its security or access controls.

These restrictions are a material part of these Terms. We may detect and block automated or abusive access without notice, and a breach may result in immediate suspension or termination and may give rise to civil or criminal liability.

8. Intellectual property and confidentiality

The Service and all rights in it — including its software, source code, visual design, branding, and the prompts, model-routing, document-structure detection, cost-modelling, and other techniques that power it — are the proprietary property and confidential trade secrets of Code Highland, protected by copyright, trade-secret, and other laws. All rights are reserved.

You retain all rights to the documents you upload. You are granted only a limited, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your personal study; no other rights are granted, whether by implication or otherwise. Any non-public information you learn about how the Service works is confidential, and you must not disclose it or use it to design, build, or operate a competing product or service.

9. Disclaimers and liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for the accuracy of AI-generated notes. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, and your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Scotland, United Kingdom, and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the law of your country of residence.
